Financial Aid for College
Beginning in Fall 2024, students who attend public institutions and have family incomes of $90,000 or less are eligible for a complete reimbursement of any out-of-pocket tuition and fees paid for their education. The program expands on individual institutional promise programs and extends financial support to middle-income Colorado residents.
Program Eligibility
There is no separate application for the Colorado Promise. Students will automatically be notified by their institutions if they were eligible in the prior academic year.
Students can ensure that they maintain eligibility by completing a FAFSA or CASFA each year, completing at least six credits each term, and earning at least a 2.5 GPA each term.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Submitting the FAFSA is the most important thing you can do if you want financial aid.
The FAFSA is free—you don’t need to pay anyone to prepare it for you.
You need to submit a new FAFSA before each academic year in which you want to get aid. If you plan to apply for aid throughout college, you’ll need to fill out the FAFSA each year.
Be sure to use a permanent email address on the form, not your high school email, so you can use your FAFSA account throughout college.
How To Prepare for the 2025–26 FAFSA® Form
Prepare now so you can complete the 2025–26 FAFSA form as soon as it’s available on or before Dec. 1, 2024. Here are some ways you can get ready:
Create a StudentAid.gov account (if you don’t already have one).
Learn about the documents you may need to fill out the FAFSA form.
Determine your dependency status and whether your parent(s) or spouse will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA form.
If you’re a dependent student, use the Who’s My FAFSA Parent? wizard to identify which parent(s) will be a required contributor on your form.
Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA)
The 2025-26 FAFSA/ CASFA are now open! Complete your application today!
The Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA) is the State Financial Aid application for undocumented, Colorado ASSET students. The CASFA bridges equity gaps and creates access to postsecondary education for Colorado ASSET students.
The General Assembly passed HB22-1155
, in-state tuition classification for Colorado high school graduates.
The law requires an institution to classify a student as ASSET for tuition purposes if the student:
Graduated from a Colorado high school or was physically present in Colorado for at least one year immediately preceding the date the student successfully completed a high school equivalency examination in Colorado; and
Has been physically present in Colorado for at least 12 consecutive months prior to enrolling in an institution.
There is no longer a requirement for the student to be admitted to college within 12 months of graduation.
Students who do not have lawful immigration status and who do not meet the ASSET qualifications are still encouraged to apply for institutional aid using the CASFA. Students who are eligible for Federal Title IV aid by completing the FAFSA should not complete the CASFA.
